When a corporation in SLC commissioned me to paint a gallery wall, research led me to discover Fluid Art (a form of abstract art that has been around since the 1930s). At first I dismissed this art form as something more for crafters, scrapbookers etc.. But the more I researched, the more interested I became - and I fell in love.
Right off I found the most difficult aspect of Fluid Art was to control the paint to produce the planned outcome. The more I practiced, I found I could incorporate my years of oil painting experience. As I did so, the results were unique and different..... to make a long story short, the commissioned gallery wall turned out beautiful and I was hooked.
Second part of the story: my husband taught religion for over 30 years and knows the scriptures like the back of his hand. He was enjoying my new form of painting and took a finished painting to a class he was teaching. After the class, one of the members said my art looked like “matter unorganized”. That rang a bell, became the title for that particular work of art and sparked an idea. I began experimenting combining oil painting techniques with fluid art. With my husband’s help to put a scripture with the concept ..... Scripture-Based Abstract Art was born.
When I began creating abstract art with a scriptural basis, I didn't realize this is a unique concept ~ no one else does this! I only know I felt moved (inspired) in this direction. I love creating it and love the finished product. By devising my own style (a mix of abstract and fluid art) I have to agree with others who tell me the results are mesmerizing and intriguing. Painting is a spiritual part of my life ~ inspired by the world around me, the scriptures, and people who inspire me. I hope to convey that love through each of my paintings.
